Activa clutch

Post by daviemck2006 »

The activa is broken. Was sitting at a junction in 1st gear away to pull out when the clutch let go and stalled it. I got it home with clutch less gear changes and good anticipation. The clutch pedal is on the floor, it lifts up but does nothing. I haven't looked under the bonnet yet, as it is wet here. Is there anything that usually breaks or slips which I can look at first?

Oh dear Davie,

That's not happy...

This is a sign, generally, that the Achilles heel of the TCT clutch has occurred in that the release bearing has popped out of the clutch diaphragm spring...

Often too it causes the slave cylinder piston to push beyond the end of the slave cylinder and potentially loose a bit of fluid... Normally recoverable though with great care..

The way to check now is to carefully remove the slave cylinder and see how far back from the flange the clutch release fork is sitting.. It should be perhaps two inches back and if it's well past that, say 6 inches than the release bearing has indeed pulled out...

Only solution is a new clutch complete...

The job is a bit of a PITA sadly due to heavy gearbox, limited space and needing an understanding/experience of this particular sort of 'pull' clutch...

I have all the required information if needed...

Hmmmmmmm sounds like a garage job then. I do not have the capability to do a clutch on this. I would maybe do the 107 but you could lift the gearbox on it with one hand, and there's enough room for two engines and gearboxes lol. This leaves me with a dilemma then, every garage I have tried around here is crap, and I don't think my mot garage would do that. They just usually do mot repairs. LOTS OF BAD WORDS.

Death knell sounding Davie unless you're prepared to spend lots of time and big big bucks. Think you"ve done your money there unfortunately.

I'm wondering what to do. Don't really want to spend what the car cost me again on a clutch. This would make a cracking car for a v6 conversion. I had an absolutely brilliant drive in it this morning taking my son in law to the airport 45 miles away. Road holding and handling is amazing, and kept the turbo on the boil. It's very possible it will get sold as is and I will be licking my wounds and put my 205 back on the road.

That's a bloody Shame Davie, all for the want of a clutch....

Such a pity we're at opposite ends of the island and in different countries else I'd say dump it on my drive and I'll do the job for you.. Done enough of them now...

You're right about being a good V6 conversion candidate too...

There's an offer that's too good to refuse Davie. Get onto Shiply and get it shipped down to Jims. All you need then is a one way ticket down to collect her. Result!

Jim, if your serious about doing the clutch for me I will get it down to you, then I shall train down when it's done to take it home. It's broken down, I have AA relay to anywhere in the country.

Even better then though you'd need to make a reasonable fist of getting her on the way to the border to convince the AA that you need flat-bedding some 300 miles. Fill her up with camping gear, cases and sleeping bags maybe. Say you're on your way to see 'Uncle Jim' ... at least that bit would be true [emoji1]
