C5 2.2HDI Mk1 - which driveshafts?

Post by mwj666 »

Hi Citroenians :-)

After some advice re C5 Mk1 driveshafts please :-

Car in question is a Mk1 2.2HDI (DW12TED4) estate with the ZF 4HP20 auto gearbox and I am in need of a RH driveshaft as I'm 99% certain the inner joint is on its last legs. Sounds simple enough - but no 2 parts shops seem able to agree on which one I need as the auto and manual ones are different lengths :?

The options seem to be 934mm (SKF VKJC5266) or 907mm ( CEVAM 7095)

Can anyone out there confirm which of the 2 is the correct fitment for the auto box? General concensus seems to be the 934mm SKF (or a Spidan one also 934mm) but I also have a couple of votes for the shorter CEVAM one

I *think* the Citroen part number is 3273EK but the Citroen site doesn't tell you helpful stuff like how long it is  and I have no intention of paying Citroens outlandish prices for a replacement!

Unfortunately I can't do the obvious - take the old shaft off, measure it and then order a replacement - its my partners car, she's disabled and can't afford to be without it for a week

If anyone can resolve this - we'd be grateful :-D

Thanks all,
Martin

I would mail JR Driveshafts with Citroen P/N. Good prices. I have had the rubber boots from them and service was good. Others on here have had the CV joints.

I second that. I've had complete driveshafts off them and they've been very good.

Martin - According to documentation for your VIN, it is the 934mm one, Exchange Part No is 3273 8V or New Part No: 3273 EK (as you stated). Picture below and here is confirmation from infopart.org regarding the size:

Hi folks,

Thanks to those who replied to this thread. Progress (and my replying here) got slightly delayed by a couple of months due to a gross excess of other work - the one that pays the bills for new driveshafts - but problem now resolved thanks and the weird undiagnosable vibration that made the car feel like it was about to fall apart at anything over 50mph has exited stage left :-D

For the record - JR no longer do driveshafts for this car, but the SKF VKJC5266 (934mm) was the correct aftermarket equivalent and went straight in - after the mandatory amount of lying under the car trying to get spanners into all-but-impossible positions whilst quietly, but systematically, cursing whoever designed the 'tight interference fit' intermediate bearing carrier

Damn these things have seriously beefy driveshafts, weigh a ton, are they recycled off a 10-ton truck, make the old CX ones look positively spindly

Took the opportunity to change the ATF in the 4HP20 box as well - and I don't care what the marketting men say about 'sealed for life' gearboxes, the changes are definitely lots better with 3.5 litres of new LT71141 in it - and for what that stuff costs they should be! :?
