C5 X7 radio upgrade

Post by c5rich »

Hi all, I have been hovering as a guest on the forum so I thought I would take the plunge as I have bought another C5. It is a C5 X7 2008 exclusive tourer, all seems to go well but I have to admit the RT4 sat nav does look like Noah used it in his arc ! Does anyone know if it can be upgraded to Tomtom software for example? If not any advise on a radio upgrade that would still work with the screen / steering wheel controls? Cheers

No, Tom Tom et al is aftermarket stuff. What's wrong with your Sat Nav specifically? For a start you could check the software version and update it if it's older.

The map etc just looks really out of date, I see the latest map from Citroen is 2014/2015 (so already a year out) and £120 at that. To be honest I normally use waze on my phone... so is the best bet to get rid of the RT4 and get a more update radio?

After market radios are hard work due to the inter-connections between the car/steering wheel controls/radio system.....

No it's not that simple. Your head unit has other functions too. The maps are made by Here, formerly Navteq not by Citroen and are used by nearly all manufacturers. The maps are always about a year behind because they are continually adding and updating.

If you decide to replace your unit expect to loose some functionality

It also operates your bluetooth and handles voice commands of the system, so not just a simple matter - then there's the parking assistance etc. etc. If you want to update your maps and firmware (always do the firmware first) you can check here:....

Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. You don't know what sort of navigation system this is - it doesn't even mention anything about the software so that looks really suspect to start with. There's no mention about interface controls or harnesses needed or anything which leads me to think this is a complete non-starter. I would suggest you leave your current system where it is to service the functions it was designed for and if you really want a 'better' sat nav then get a dash mounted system for £70 that is completely independent and won't cripple your car.

He's already got the large screen navigation system - he's not happy with the navigation element Vab Fan.

Well, I would not be either. Anything below rneg2 or ng4 in PSA navi line is really old style terrible view navigation. Rneg2 is fine, and he could instal quite easily.

It depwnds where you buy.I have sold full set rneg2 (even with updated trim of llower compartament and larger dg4 plastic from exlusive car and other extras) for 380eur to a member of this forum. Se my post in sale thread.I think i can get another rneg2 with screen for less than 380eur.
