Refurbishing ignition switch contact block?

Post by RobertZ »

Hi guys,
The ignition switch contact block on my Mk 1 1997 Xantia requires attention.
An arcing sound now occasionally emanates from an area to the right and below the steering wheel and I suspect that the source is the switch contact block, which had its burnt contacts scraped clean at the time of the fitting of an ignition bypass relay for the ventilation fan in 2009. The switch part itself is in good condition, however, the contact block is now quite fragile.
The new Valeo ignition switch assembly for the Mk 1, although it can be installed fully, has a different contact block design that is not compatible with the existing switch.
Is it possible to get hold of a fully refurbished Mk 1 contact block that can be secured to my ignition switch?
I much prefer staying with the existing switch than face the ongoing inconvenience of carrying two keys.

Photos of my Xantia's switch assembly can be provided to ensure a match. The Citroen 'Steering Lock' part number is 4162 W4

I would value your feedback

Cheers, Robert
