NEW Xantia parts........your need ?

Post by Stickyfinger »

XANTIA parts:

IF you could obtain any NEW PARTS for a Xantia, what parts would you like to have/Will need soon ?

Glass, Electrical, Suspension, Body panels, Engine/Cooling.

Please try and think about what you would need to pay for fitting and the cost of that if you do not do DIY.
I am trying to establish where the need is.

XM owners, please think what parts could be interchangeable from a Xantia part....such as Electro Valve parts, switches etc.

I am serious about this so please take a little time to consider your needs and if you would value the car to a level that if an OM-quality part was available at a reasonable cost, would you buy it to save your car ?

Theres little between XM and Xantias. The same question between XM and Xantia has been asked on the xm forum in regards to fdv and regulators but seeing the xantia was a sinker for a short time most xantia wont be able to donate to XM and vice versa... I think it would on be electrovalves from 1993/4 onwards in the XM... prehaps brake valves and height correctors with a bit of modification..

As said elsewhere Alasdair repair panels for this area, both sides although I only need left side just now, well before September anyway!

Thanks....could you ask on the XM forum for me ?

Little point in getting things that are still in stock at Citroen.....I will look at NFP items first.

all NFP :) yep

The basic question would be "What parts are/could be used from the Xantia on an XM" Can Strut Tops be converted/Used for instance

I'm no expert but having had 3 XMs and 9 Xantias, I recall a conversation with one who is an expert and he told me "beware. An XM looks like it could be a big Xantia, but they share virtually nothing parts-wise"..

This looks promising but wont help MK1 XM owners, strut tops are very different, electrovalve is a million miles apart in design but super reliable, abs, suspension components and bushings, cabin and body fiittings/trims/switchgear and panels all completely different, all of which is NFP  .

I cant think of much at all that would swap to a MK1 XM from a xantia tbh.

MK2 XM's at least share electrovalves, maybe pumps and flow dividers / regulators, height corractors (not cradle).

I like your thinking though and it is going to be an issue sooner rather than later.

Cheers....I always wondered about it :)....no need then.

Is a shame as you really need a high demand to make production viable, i would think peugeot share more xant parts than anything else but ive not really had any experience with them.

So you would be interested in ANYTHING xantia that I decide to get rid of? I find little market for interior bits to be honest... but aside keep X amount for my S1 non air bag model ive a bit of S2 stuff but need to trim right down to make space for overflow of xm parts...

I agree with every thing dean has said above..

I am at this moment not looking at collecting 2nd hand parts as I really have no room for that due to the need to strip cars (not a game for me) and a lack of "dirty storage" space for engines etc.
Time may change this however but is hard to think the Xantia will ever be worth it as the value of cars is likely to be always on the low mark. It has little love shown for it in the general Classic Car market when compared to cars like Ford Escorts , VW Golfs/Beetles and even 2Cv's etc..

I am looking at New parts that cannot be sourced on the 2nd hand market or would cost more to refurbish at first. Parts such as Strut Tops, selected body panels and HP pumps

I wouldnt be so sure about not being popular on the classic scene, not yet obviously but it was a bit different, its was very, very popular in its day which means there will be a lot of people who's parents had one out there looking for a bit of their youth in 10 or so years, unfortunatly it will probably take longer for enough of them to die to also become rare.
Every other old Citroen seams to find its value its just a matter of how long it takes, Activa's will probably be top dog and the rest of the range following the usual classic price trends, faster, higher/rarer specs the most valued.
