Used C5 prices going up

Post by osx »

Started having a look at used C5 X7 prices again as I will be replacing my 3rd X7 which will be approaching the 120k mile barrier by the end of the year. Have prices gone up or is it my idea (unless i got a very good deal when i bought mine)? Are these last hydractive beauties becoming a collectors item already :-D

I've been trying to buy one for months now.
I'm specific about what I want and it seems that anything at what I consider to be the correct price is sold immediately.
Anything that looks a grand or so overpriced is sold within a few days.
(Saloons and manual Tourers aren't so bad but I want an Exclusive auto Tourer with less than 60k.)

i think you'll find that this will be the trend as the C5 RHD production ends in April. Good spec C5 X7s will become harder to get hold of. I had to wait 6 months to get my exclusive with all the trimmings, so when I saw the exact spec I wanted, I travelled to Wakefield the next day after putting a deposit via phone to secure it. There were already 3 others after it, so I had to put £300 as a deposit. I'm really pleased I got her. As of posting this, there are only 19 C5 X7 Exclusives with under 60k on auto trader and one just got sold as soon as it went on!

Used C5 prices going up

Post by coarist »

The Hydractive III+ is the main reason that I brought C5 X7. Mine is 2011 model and it is so far reliable. Owners reported some problems on forums. I am hoping perhaps 2011 is mid-life of the model, quality and consistency are better controlled by the factory.
I have been keeping my eye on the Hydractive C5 X7 but during that time I had been just looking, I did not contemplate fully of buying one. One day there is one on display, I part exchange from a local car dealer, I paid what I perceived to be a higher price when comparing other offerings on the Internet. My case is in favour of this topic.
The chassis dynamics of the car is different. It stands out. Consumer "taste" matters most.

Like anything - people will tend to pay what anything is is worth to them as individuals, just like at an auction. You have to weigh up how much you want something, the price you are prepared to pay, or risk waiting and loosing the opportunity. The C5 X7 will be the last car with Hydractive suspension produced (we don't know exactly what the new 'unique' system we have been promised is as yet), so for enthusiasts, this may push up demand on the second-hand market. I couldn't find a single Diesel X7 with Full Leather and Bi-Directional Xenons today on autotrader. So the ones with all the toys are quite rare.

I bought our 3.0 HDi Exclusive X7 in December. Was advertised on Autotrader, when I called and said "I'm phoning about your C5" he replied with "the 3.0 HDi?" Apparently his phone had been ringing constantly about it. I left a deposit there and then and collected it a week later. Was on 63k when we got it, it's now on 68k as of yesterday. It's an absolutely cracking car.

If I could change it for a later one with a lower mileage I would in a heartbeat as it would be a keeper.

Hang on to the one you have David - sounds a tidy example, but a bit hefty on the tax I'm guessing! I'm on about 66k miles now on mine, but haven't seen one spec'd like it since I bought mine a few years back. Like you, made a deposit straight away on the phone as they had 3 other people all interested the same day it went up, plus a 400+ mile round trip to collect it.

Used C5 prices going up

Post by coarist »

Same case with me. I trade up my 2011 Tourer to the same 2012 model. The time that I put in the deposite, a phone call is turned down in front of me. It is comforting to learn from here some justification of the relatively high price that I paid for the trading up.
