Correct wheel bolts

Post by osx »

Friend wants to replace the locking bolts with normal ones and received the following which look slightly different. The ones i used to replace mine had thread in two places but the ones he received have thread only on the distal part. is it safe to use these?

Yes. The second lot of grooves aren't a thread as such, they are a form of knurling which keeps the washer captive. The newer bolt uses a different method to raise the surface of the bolt shank to provide a raised edge.

Yes. One other minor thing though.

Check whether the bolt head size is the same as the ones already fitted. There were two different types, 17mm and 19mm. They are interchangeable but a nuisance if you don't have the correct wheel brace size - he may have to carry two spanner sizes.

I did always wonder why there was thread under the washer seeing as it goes nowhere near the hub!
