Jon goes mad (again)

Post by Jon »

<font color="blue">Remember I was ranting and raging a couple of weeks ago about my Multispace 1.9D saga (problems, problems)??
I ended my post by saying that I was going to get a marker pen and write across my forehead "I will never ever buy a bloody Citroen again" (so I could remind myself each time I look in the bathroom mirror.)
Guess what?
Today, I have traded said Berlingo Multispace 19D, and ordered a Multispace 2.0 HDi, Silver and with Modutop. I hopefully collect it next week. Its in Blackburn so I might be dropping in on fellow HDi owner Dave Bamber over in Fleetwood for a chinwag to compare faults!!
Words like "plot" and "lost" will no doubt spring to everyone's mind!!

Must admit Jon, that your previous posts worried me 'cos I have an HDi Berlingo (with modutop, A/C like yours but Sahara Gold or something)Got it in July, only done about 6k so far but no probs so far and also no niggles. I love it - engine is great, handles well enough for me and surprisingly comfortable on long journeys. Lots of nice little touches like the wipers which go to intermittent when stationary, the back wiper which comes on when you reverse and the "get you home" headlights, interior lights which come on when ignition switched off etc. Must also admit that I have had a few comments like "why did you buy a van?" but once people have a look inside and a ride they are converted. My daughter was amazed at how ir swallowed all her furniture when she moved flat, my brothers kids thought it was great in the back and wanted to travel in it instead of his 306 estate and my Dad said "I didn't realise they made cars like that" and wants one himself. Here's hoping that they are reliable!
What's more they are "different" and not too many on the road. Perhaps we might even get to wave at each other like Ren 4 owners used to! Do you think they should have put in the hydraulic suspension? Quite miss the smell of LHM that seemed to follow me around when I had the old BXs!!!
Oh, and by the way - you can get a hell of a lot of wine boxes in the back - makes a trip to Calais very profitable!!

For some strange reason Bank Top Citroen is not an authorised Citroen dealership [?].
I called in for a rear height corrector plastic link for my Xantia. I was told that they can not supply parts because they are not an authorised dealership.
It looks like a Citroen dealership and I always thought it was - a bit dodgy if you ask me.
But Blackburn is a strange place [:)].

But let's face it, what else were you going to buy??
A Fraud? A Vyukxall?
There's only one cure, and that's more Citroens.
You know it makes sense, in an odd sort of way!

Bank Top, yes. Cheapest I could find in the UK.
Quickly, tell me why not and if there are problems I should know about.[:(]
I only have today to get out of it........
PS They are listed on the Cit Uk Website as a dealer, and their own site http://www.banktop.citroen.co.uk/ also states "As an authorised Citroën dealer, we not only know more about Citroën’s.......etc "

Ring the parts department and ask if they have a part its price and availability.

To BonceChops and and Blueboy2001.
I was quite worried that I was going to be a dealing with an outfit here when I read your posts, so when they called today I explained that my wife had overruled me and that we did not wish to proceed.[:p]
Got on the blower to the dealer that I used to work at back in the early 90's and explained all to them. Upshot is that I have today paid the deposit on a brand new Multispace HDi at under £9k on the road with metallic paint etc, and they gave me a great offer on the present 19D which I have promised to valet and tidy.
The Zx TD raised its eyes to heaven and muttered.

I'm from Lancashire and the group that own Bank Top also own the dealer in Wigan, every time I've tried to buy anything from them, from C5 HDi Exclusive to part for my old Xantia they've been nothing sort of either obstructive or a rip off.
They offered to sell me a C5 2.2HDi SX at £15,100 which was "below cost price". Hmmm, I wonder how Barclays Motors in Warrington keep going then becuase they'd quoted me, and subsequently sold me the same for £13,695. When I showed them the quote, the salesman stood up, escorted me to the door and thanked me for wasting his time!
As Boncechops said, Blackburn is a funny old place and Wigan is as bad, if not worse!
Which spec have you ordered Jon, rough price I got off my contact today was £8450 for a Forte and £8850 for a Desire.

2.0 HDi Forte in "Artic Steel", couldn't really see it was worth paying extra for the "Desire" for the sake of front foglamps and a few other minor things.
BTW all Multispaces come in metallic paint (except the white one) and you have to pay extra for that on top of any quoted price. Everyone was quoting a similar on the road price for this car (bar Bank Top....!!) and I'm buying it from Broads of Chalfont as they have offered a very good PX price, and they're helpful without being pushy.

Snap, yesterday I also ordered a HDI Multispace from Broads at Chalfont!
I decided on the Desire in Mediterranean blue with aircon, I'm PXing my Xantia estate and struck what appears to be a pretty good deal compared with three other dealers I visited.[:D]
Interestingly the one at Chiswick (London West) who I believe are part of Cit UK only appear to have three salesmen who are run off their feet and never available, consequently despite untold phone calls I never managed to get to the point of finalising figures and even when I went there not one salesman was available for the hour I was there!
I should be picking mine up on the 1st March for the new 04 reg, so if you are also waiting for that I might see you there Jon.
It will be interesting to compare notes as the mileage builds up, I just hope the HDI version is more reliable than your 1.9D.............

Coincidence indeed!!
The Broads guys are pretty good. Continues a family history for us as my ZX was supplied new (to my mother) from Broads back in 1993(!) and indeed at that time I was working there in Parts. Broads of Chalfont has been going since 1987 and is still owned by Mr Colin Broad himself.
I decided to buy this Berlingo from them as they got straight to the point (ie how much to change) and bid me well on our current Berlingo plus finance at the APR I was looking for.
I spent yesterday tidying and valeting the present beast, and at 21K the front tyres were past their prime so I stuck 2 new ones on. If not I felt that the over the phone offer for the beast may well have been retracted when they clapped eyes on it!!
I'm not waiting until March 1st as I'm not too bothered, and I want to get into the new car as as soon as possible.
