2.1td cam belt tensioner part?

Post by moizeau »

Can someone help please? In the middle of doing the cam belt, but the eccentric cam that releases the tension has a worn 10mm head. I can't find the the part for love nor money. I don't need the full tensioner, just the 'releasing cam'. Does anyone know the part number please?
Thanks very much
Pete

I think it's NFP - part number 082016. Doesn't return any hits on e-bay - but I did find this on club-XM, which sounds the same. Got a welder??? There was a picture, but the link is dead:

This is the modified cam device which engages the auto-tensioner on the 2.1 TD (as fitted to Xantias, XM's, Peugeot 406 and 605)
As you can see in my previous photo, this had rounded off thus preventing the tensioner from being retracted or tensioned. Accessing this means removing the inner engine mount case which in itself is a fiddly job but can be done without removing engine. It still means lifting and lowering the engine a few times.

Since I didn't have a replacement cam, (new belt kit didn't come with this unit), I welded on a far stronger 12mm diameter nut as this will still allow a box spanner or socket to access the hole in the inner engine mount. Just make sure the hole for the 5mm allen key locating bolt is not blocked by weld. There is still enough thread on the clamping bolt to enable a secure fix.

Thanks Richard. That very simple, I was thinking about continuing the 10mm nut flats further down the sleeve, 'extending' the nut head, but your idea would be more robust. I think I'll grind the original 10mm head off first though, thus leaving the same amount of thread going into the block.
Sorry for my ignorance but what's NFP? and a google of the part number doesn't show anything. I'll have a play with the welder, but also call into the dealer to see how many millions they want as I need a crank oil seal aswell. I know I can get the seal cheaper elsewhere but the postage for 1 part probably negates the gain.
Thanks very much again

NFP = "No F*^&ing Parts"... i.e. No longer produced and available new from Citroen..

Cheers for the advice Richard, An 11mm head does a very good job, 'cause you can grind the welds to suit and give you a very long 'nut' that will never round off again. Regarding the awkward bit of getting the engine mount off, yes, it is easier to plait urine! Partially unscrew the engine mount, then take the pump pulley off (you're changing the belt anyway and it can be repositioned with the locking studs). Now you can plait anything
