Xsara Picasso windscreen-Rain sensor or not rain sensor?

Unread post by NewcastleFalcon »

Yes this was a question I was asked today

Without rain sensor £150 + VAT
With rain sensor £300 + VAT

I dearly hope my Xsara Picasso 2.0HDi SX 02 vintage is in the without rain sensor category.

But how can I tell whether I have the rain sensor or not?

Lets look at the evidence

1. The wiper functions seem to be reassuringly manual and conventional on the stalk.
2. Here's the top of the windscreen....simple array of dots close up

Any views/definitive tests?

Oh and is this just BS
If your vehicle has a rain sensor built in and you do not replace it with one this can cause serious electrical faults linked to the vehicle management system, in essence the brain is looking for the sensor and when unable to locate it a fault light will be displayed on the dash board that you will not be able to turn off.

I would say that (compared to my C5, with its rain sensor) that windscreen is a normal one. When I have seen a Xsara Picasso with the rain sensor the shroud for the mirror mount is much bigger, and goes up to the roof.

That's encouraging James. I dont think there is a position of the wiper stalk that can put the wipers in automatic mode. Position 1 just puts them on slow speed and position 2 full speed.

No you don't have it from the look of the pic. If you want to be 100% PM me with your Vin and I'll confirm it in a couple of minutes. :)

Thanks Marc, I only have access to the free services but putting my VIN into service-citroen, this little parts diagram came up.

Yep, that confirms it - also as you don't have the auto setting on the wipers or the lighting stalks you won't be having a coronary with the replacement prices!
