Citroen C5 MK1 Facelift Estate 2004 - 2008 WIRING HARNESS

Unread post by lakanooky2 »

Hi Peeps
I have a C5 MK1 Facelift Estate 2004 - 2008 with Sat Nav
and was wondering if the Front wiring harness for the radio can be swapped with a car without the Sat Nav ie little Monochrome screen
Or
Any contact details of good C5 breakers that could possibly help me.
Thanks In Advance Mark

It's the loom/harness that goes from the Quadlock to wherever further back into the car.
I have no idea the name of the loom/harness but im just guessing it would go deeper into the car's loom, and attach somewhere.
I can not see Citroen having a complete different loom for a car with Sat Nav ie big screen, and another one for the Monochrome ie little screen.False economy that.
Unless im barking up the wrong tree completely.

theres two sorts of centre screen, very basic 2 liner, then slightly bigger screen and the sat naff screen...

Id have not thought there be different harnesses but there could be, but more a Plug n play harness swap depending on the spec the car being made to the appropiate "Secondry" harness be a plug in before the dash facia is installed..

They should be different harnesses - if its the RT3 Navidrive system you have, there are fibre optic connectors. (Also - be careful, there is a warning about pulling out the fibre connector before taking off the quad connectors - it can brick the system - unless it is already bricked and the reason you are trying to change it)!

Yes Marc
It is the RT3 Navidrive system but surely the wiring should connect somewhere in the car's loom, im trying to take the RT ( it's still working ) out and back track to a RD system if that make any sense.
Anyone know of any good C 5 breakers that have perhaps stripped both systems out.

Mark - I see you have accessed the service docs - the only way to explore further without ripping everything out would be to look up the SEDRE electrical wiring diagrams for your vehicle. Can you access this? - if not let me know.

Just a bit confused too - are you saying you want to leave the Colour Screen in, but just change the head unit for a standard radio? If that's the case have you considered what this might do regarding information warnings and displays that come through on the screen for this model? I say this as I believe on the RT3 system some of the 'processing' is carried out by the electronics in the screen display and not just the head unit. Also if this is what you intend doing it might be difficult to find a loom that will interface to the existing colour screen given the use of fibre optic connectors. As I'm a little unsure as to what you are trying to achieve I can't be more specific :?

Thinking of going backwards from a RT system to a RD system.
i will replace the big colour screen for the little orange and black one, along with the head-unit.
I'm trying to find out where my RT (Number 5 above) plugs/splices into the cars main loom, and replace it with the RD one.
If i can go back to a RD system then i can fit my alpine, and keep all the info on the monochrome little screen, like i have done in the red C5 hatch.
I do not have access to the SEDRE ..... Marc ..... as the above pic is from Rigbye Citroen that Stuart sent me.

I'll need your exact model and engine size and I'll see what the wiring diagrams say

Well, I've spent the best part of a morning looking through diagrams for a similar model car with the RT3 and don't have anything positive to tell unfortunately. All I do know it that with the RT3 system there are a lot of associated electronics that all go back to the main headunit. The following I can trace back:

8402 x 2 FUBA diversity unit that sources your FM1 and FM2 signals and processes the strongest signal to feed back to the unit
8501 GPS Antenna
8484 GSM Aerial
Auxiliary audio wiring to the glovebox
Auxiliary video input wiring to the glovebox
All your speakers
The Air Con ECU via CAN
8415 CD Changer (if fitted)
Microphone
CV00 Steering wheel switch module via CAN
Air Bag ECU via CAN
Then there are the screens - they are all different with different processors and memory configurations to provide the relevant features for the options - so simply connecting a monochrome smaller screen may not work at all.

If you really want to cannibalise the system (nearly a £2k option new  ) then short of taking off the centre console and the dash to physically trace the connectors (if there are any) I can't really do anymore from this end. I suspect that there are at least 2 different harnesses based on trim and this being the upper trim level may just be different enough to cause a problem - I maybe wrong. Good luck with whatever you decide! :)

Wow Marc a really big THANK YOU for the info. Looks like i will be selling the car as the Audio side of it, is far more important than the RT model. I think i will treat myself to a RD system car.
