Happy New Year to all on the FCF from Northumberland :)

The Northern Lights brought in the New Year here. Not sure how much enhancement goes into the photo's published but this is one from Holy Island. Our experience was more of a subtle glow at the top of the hills looking North, and with the nearest significant light pollution in that direction being Edinburgh 70 odd miles away, chances are we "saw" the Northern Lights.

These pictures are from Jane Coltman the Northumberland Gazette's official photographer taken between 12 midnight and 2.00 am.

The second one is a view of the "refuge box" on the causeway. Its where you climb into when you have "hydrauliced" your car when you try to cross the causeway when the tide is rushing in!

You can get an "Aurora Alert" from this Lancaster University site http://aurorawatch.lancs.ac.uk/

The Amber alert last night came up trumps for most of Northern Britain.

No need to go to Iceland, a quick cycle tour of the Scottish Coast, and the "alerts" app on your phone and Bob's your uncle!
