Citroen C5 issues

Unread post by mm4015 »

Hi folks, great Forum.
I need to pick some brains, I have a 2006 Citroen C5 1.6 HDi 110 (Non-FAP, I think??) Design. Bought from an Independent dealer a short time ago and has a multitude of issues. Initially brakes were hopeless, and engine wasn't pulling as I thought it should. After going back several times and getting nowhere (Nowt wrong with, thats just old Citroen's mate!!!), I made a claim through the Credit Card company. To cut along story short (PM if you want the full story), brakes sorted at their cost, but still left with engine issues.

Done the usual, good service, check pipes etc Also DMF and Clutch changed, MAF replaced.
Left with the following:

Turbo blades damaged, but no blue smoke or significant end float. Possibly damaged by flaking insulating tape that was used in place of proper rubber sleeve. Would a CHRA change be enough, or replace entire Turbo?

Double throttle body (air doser) unit, only one has a electrical connector in, the one nearest the timing belt end of engine. The other (nearer the turbo) is unplugged and I can't find the plug/connector for it anywhere. Any ideas where it should be or go? It has the 9HY engine.
Have photos but not sure how to add them to the post

Ran the Lexia on it and only issue thrown up was glow plugs?
Any thoughts or pointers anyone?

Thanks in advance

Hi Folk.... (Didnt catch your name.. :-D  )

Ok, a CHARA Cartridge is as good as new for a fraction of the price!

Ive just done one on a 55 plate 1.6 hdi, its all in the blog for the car... urrrm here.. http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... 1&start=30

Its NOT a hard job to do at all. Ive done a C4 90bhp and a C5 110 now...

I changed mine as I also had some fins broke, but you can see that if you look through the whole blog.. the turbo still physically worked, but as you can see it also leaked soot too!

Thanks citroenxm, I'll have a look at the blog, should give me some good info and pointers.
In general I like the car, Its a great drive just lacking ooomph and been missing some mechanical kindness in the past. My other half has a 1.6 hdi (92) Pic that I'm using as my benchmark, so reckoning the C5 should be quicker.
I'll look at doing that with the turbo as I'm reasonably handy with the spanners, my fiancé probably wouldn't agree though lol.

Thanks again
And Merry Xmas

My 1.6 16v 110 goes rather well.. Im certain all C5s were 110s with the 1.6 ... The other issue of there is still no boost is the Vacuum electroc valve might not be working... When you start the engine the vaccuum should build up and pull down and close the wastegate.. If you look under the oil feed pipe you can see the wastegate lever, with the engine running it should be pulled right down into the vac canister unit..

Yeah I've driven a few cars with variations of that engine, they're great for their size and economy. Throttle response on my fiancés Picasso 1.6 hdi (92) is excellent, which why I was disappointed in my C5 which is meant to have an extra 20 ponies. They're both same age, and similar mileage. I'll check the vac valve, had something similar go years ago go on my Pug 406 2.0 HDi. I'll do the CHRA and oil lines as looked like an easy job going by your blog, which is really good. Cracking deal you got.
Here's a link to a post on the C5 forum, it's got pics : http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/ci ... entry87498

Need to decode the VIN so I know what it left the factory with, tried the decoders on Google but they're crap, know of any that are accurate?

Thanks again for your help and info.

With the VIN we can get the full info from the citroen service web site.. im a member there .

Fit a new oil feed pipe to the turbo . While the turbo is off remove the exhaust bracket nuts as the oil feed pipe is secured behind it. Theres no need to remove the bottom pipe connection as the flexi connection lets the cat/dpf come forward enough to get at the banjo ..

Is there any evidence that these Cartridges are able to do the big miles?
Is the quality there?

Cool I'll PM you the VIN if that's ok. Ordered the parts up, just need to wait for them to arrive.

Cheers
