C5 S1 niggly problems - thoughts?

Unread post by wurlycorner »

Couple of niggly things with my C5 that I should get round to fixing at some point.

1 - Radio reception is crap. I think I've read something on here about water getting into the base of the aerial, but I'm wondering if the antenna itself has just snapped inside (too many car washes)?
2 - Rear wiper doesn't park in the right position, 4 times out of 5 (very annoying).

Haven't looked into these yet, so apologies if they're really simple and I just sound lazy, but hoping someone can shed some experience on them before I start looking please? :-D

Thanks

Radio problem could well be water ingress to the aerial, not had a problem with mine so haven't investigated.

The area around the rear wiper motor on the estate suffers with poor connections which causes all sorts of strange things, or you could have a break in the cable where it goes from the body to the tailgate.

Iain, my S2 exclusive had the navidrive system in and the radio deteriorated chronically. I bought a brand new aerial (the expensive one that had the additional gps wiring in) all for nothing. On further researching it turned out that likely cause was one of the tuners in the head unit had gone. Shortly after that GPS reception crapped out too. Suggested solution was sending off to the pioneer chaps in uk for a refurb as they say it is a common issue. But I exchanged it for current X7 at dealers so never got round to it. Probably isn't the same unit you have but the tuners do go on the radios, so maybe worth a check before you go down the aerial route if you have another unit you could test it with?

I have found with both the C5 and 406 the radios are nothing special so have replaced them both with Pioneer units, the difference is amazing and they were only about £50 plus the fitting kit which wasn't dear.

The Navidrive unit was the RT3 Magneti Marelli and Pioneer UK were the authorised service centres. I think they had a fixed price for a refurb, replacing anything that needed doing in the price. Was worth it considering the prices of a second hand head unit were £500 and up with no guarantee of condition of course.
