De Cat

Post by pikecrazy »

Have changed the MAF sensor on the van and now all is well.

Now the cat seems to be rattling around and was wondering if it was possible to de cat it ?

Yes you should be able to purchase a decat piece for the exhaust. However, why, cats are not that expensive now and they dont cause problems like particulate filters. May as well replace it and save the world from a small amount of nasty gasses.

Does the car not need a remap when decat has been done ? and would that not cost more than a new cat/2nd hand ?

Can't disagree, diesels are horrible on fumes. Does the cat do any good in that respect though?
I reckon they don't work on short or town journeys. Also the aftermarket cats are not as good.

a Cat will not work correctly unless hot so in the winter on short journeys or when stuck in traffic in town they will not work as well. When you say fumes it depends what you mean, smoke no because that is small particles of soot. Buy a cat does reduce the Nitric oxide and carbon monoxide both which are very nasty gases.

A good aftermarket cat will be fine try GSF.

I was told that it's an MOT fail if the cat is removed. Try Jaystock for a new one they're generally ridiculously cheap, complete system for my HDI Xantia was around £130 if I remember right, and free delivery.
