1st Citroen Breakdown in 20 years!!!

Unread post by rory_perrett »

Well for the first time in 20 years and over 500,000 miles in Citroens I have had a breakdown - a car one. Sphere seal housing on the nearside suspension ram has cracked and is p***ing out copious quantities of LHM on my Xantia Estate. So I now have no suspension, no steering and no brakes. Just to really annoy, me I have all the facilities where I am working this week including a 2 post car lift, I also have a complete spare axle so I have a replacement part BUT I'm 140 miles from home (and my spare part). Oh well I guess I'll be getting my money's worth out of Mr RAC this year!

The only reason our Cits don't break down much, is that we are constantly maintaining them to an inch of their lives!
A bit of bad luck that with Zanty. :(

Only needed to be recovered twice so far *touches wood* once on my Skoda Rapid (snapped gear change linkage) and once in my Estelle 130GL - all of 500 yards from home when an idiot in a gas tanker didn't give way at the crossroads.

Had one other visit from an RAC engineer (after I got a lift home and guided him to the car as the road wasn't in his GPS...), which was a Lada Samara with a stuck carb float. His solution? Whack it with a hammer...problem solved!

I use AutoAid these days as a year's coverage for both me and my partner is about 40 quid, and the RAC wanted well over a ton, and these guys are highly recommended over on the Saab forums I also frequent. Not needed to tesf them yet mind you...long may that continue!

Sounds like a bit of bad luck there, hopefully not too bad to sort.
