Megane ABS
Well at last I got round to changing the driveshaft on the megane I owned and sold a few weeks ago. I promised to do it as part of the sale. When taking the driveshaft out I knocked off the wire for tha ABS sensor. I was running out of daylight and I could not see where it was attached so I cable tied it up out of the way. Problem is the warning light is now on an service light on. Does anyone know if that's it knackered and needing new clips or sensor, or if it just pushes in somewhere?

Re: Megane ABS
Usually the connector is away from the wheel somewhere so it doesn't get a soaking. If you've knocked the wire off at the sensor, then chances are it's had it. New sensor required....

Re: Megane ABS
It's away at the wheel side, I won't be looking at it for a week or two. I told the guy just to ignore the warning lights for now. Will replacing the sensor involve taking the driveshaft out of the hub again? At least the bolts on the ball joints will be easily undone next time!

Re: Megane ABS
It should be possible to do it without removing the shaft - a quick search suggests that the sensor is just clipped to the hub, which probably makes it even easier! Is it possible that you've just pulled the whole sensor out of the clip? The business end looks pretty small. You should take care with a modern car with no ABS - many have done away with rear brake proportioning valves, relying instead on the ABS. No ABS = no prevention of rear lock up = good chance of the back end coming round to meet you if you need to stop in a hurry on a greasy road!!

Re: Megane ABS
I just had a look on ebay Richard, it's the end of the wire that clips into the hub has broken, and there looks to be two different types of connector at the top. It would look to be about a 5 minute job to replace and only cost about 10 to 12 pounds. I will have to see the car to find out which top connector I need and that should be job done.

Re: Megane ABS
Easier than the 307 then.... this has the magnetic bearings, and the pick up is bolted on the back of the hub. With a through bolt! You have to remove the pick up to get the bearing out, the first side I did the bolt inevitably snapped off and had to be drilled out. The second side I manged to get out with Plus gas and heat. I can't see that you could get the bolt out on the car though, pretty sure you would need to remove the hub to do it....!
