SORN

Unread post by MTND »

Hi all

So I've got my Xantia off the road at the moment, not using during the winter.
Been three months so far and all OK, started and run up to temperature today, up and down on the suspension etc.
I've read a bit about what to do when not using the car far a while and today decided to disconnect the battery.

Just wanted to get peoples thoughts for when the time comes to reconnect again? I know a silly question but is there any specific things to remember?
I've got my radio code so can put that back in again but what other things should I be careful of?

all help much appreciated

I take my Xantia off the road at this time of the year for a few months Mark and I disconnect and remove the battery. I keep it in the 9relatively warm) workshop, off the cold concrete floor and charge it every couple of weeks.

Reconnecting, no special precautions, just be ready for the alarm going off and doing a reset on it using the ultrasonic defeat button as you turn on the ignition.

One good thing is to put the suspension onto the lowest setting when the car is out of use.

Winter will come soon enough Davie! Just you wait!

As soon as Christmas is done with...

My dad, a postman all his working life, says that in the run up to Christmas the weather always used to be wet and miserable and then after, cold and crisp until the spring..

Seem like the pattern we're experiencing this year... Goodness knows except for these past few days it's been truly wet and miserable...

I'm actually looking forward to the bright cold and crisp days of proper winter...

I love a right frosty morning, with the sun out and the ice dangling off the trees and bushes and the temperature about -10! You can wrap up against the cold easier than keeping dry on a horrid day.

Most important thing to remember when you reconnect the battery?

Make absolutely completely and totally sure that the key is in your pocket, not in the ignition.

If I had a quid for every time I saw someone lock keys in a car when connecting the jumper pack at the garage...not sure if Xantias do it or not, but many cars lock the doors as soon as power is applied, so if your key is in the ignition and a door isn't left open you're in trouble!
