What is the difference?, Am I right

Unread post by Sloppysod »

When I look for parts on the "CITROËN SERVICE - Replacement Parts Documentation website" I see notes alongside various parts, two of which are:-

1, "PART TO BE CONFIGURED" does this mean? - installation with aid of Lexia or Diagbox?
2, "CONFIGURED PART AND VEHICLE IDENT NO (VIN) TO BE SPECIFIED ON ORDER" - Is it that, it is supplied with VIN number hard encoded and will not work on any other vehicle?

As to note 2, is there a work around for 2nd hand parts?

My attempt: you're half right... the 2nd part would be VIN coded, meaning it is "customized" to match your car (options that have left the factory at least), making it plug&play installation (in a sense that no further configuration will be necessary) ... all parts can be (I believe) VIN re-coded to match any other car ...

Engine ECUs and BSIs can be virginised to male them like 1. They then need to be customised with a lexia. In most cases used engine ECUs can be made into a clone of the original using either BDM, Galetto or other similar tools. BSI units can be virginised or cloned using an eprom programmer. A cloned unit is plug and play.

vborovic - Thanks for your answers.

BX - So, if I get a hand slave ECU, not a BSI, I can recode it with my Lexia/Diagbox or do I need special software?
