Xantia Alarm

Post by momag46 »

Hi all
My V6 Series 2 Xantia alarm has started going off BUT:

Only the alarm is going, the indicators do not flash :?
It does not stop when unlocked
The 're-set' system does not cancel it
I can start the car and drive away and it still keeps going
It keeps going for up to 5 minutes :!:

I can lock it with the key, no problems - but - it's too easy to forget and use the keyfob.

The car has been checked with a Lexia at Barry Annells but no faults were recorded.

Any ideas chaps [-o<

If you unlock and relock does it stop?

NO

It only stops when it want to!

Unlock, relock, start engine, stop engine, drive car, only time seems to stop it

I'd be baffled but would start by checking the battery then looking to try a different central locking ecu (as I believe it is responsible for the alarm.)

Got nowhere with this - been using the key in the lock (remember how to do that?)

Can the Lexia pick up if a sensor is to blame and if so, which one???

On a Mk2 Xantia, I believe that the alarm ECU remembers the most recent trigger causes, and these can be read by a Lexia.

You dont actually say if you use the Remote fob to unlock the car... this gives an ecu reset each time.. unlocking a car with the key in the door does not reset.. you can also reset by disconnecting the battery... leave a moment.. locate your alarm cancel button on the dash.. a sort of loud speaker with a cross through it.. not the rear window cancel button.. that has an up downn arrow on it with a cross and is on the same side... re connect the battery then press and hold the alarm cancel button and switch on the ignition.. the indicators should rapid flash and system reset. If you lock your car with the key and not the fob this also wont arm the alarm..

Maybe a dodgy connection to the alarm itself? I noticed on cold days my siren will sound almost like it thinks its been disconnected

I believe the siren has its own battery backup.. After all these years it could be this that's failing...
Siren is not easy to get to (for obvious reasons) and it's a bumper off job to get at it...

Thanks again

I'm using the key so as not to set the alarm. When I use the 'fab' to lock the car the alarm is liable to go off but ONLY the alarm, the lights/indicators are not activated.
When the alarm is triggered I cannot reset it and it sometimes keeps on for 5-10 minutes; I can start the car and drive away (you get some funny looks :rofl2: )

By using the key to lock the car the alarm is not set therefore okay. I'm now only carrying the key 'cos it's so easy to go into auto-pilot and use the fob.

I've not gone through the battery disconnect route 'cos I also thought the alarm had its own battery.

When Barry's son Pete connected up the Lexia, no faults were recorded.

The car is only used occasionally this time of year so the problem is not to much of an issue yet.

Mine did that once, randomly started going off 20 minutes into a journey!

Iirc you can pull the fuse for the alarm and still have locking, atleast on the S1
