C5 Mk1 trip computer probe.

Post by Xantianut »

Ay up!

Otterchops has now spent one whole year in my ownership and has, once the pesky head gasket was fixed, been a good, reliable, powerful, economical car. However, one thing still vexes me.

As I understand it, the trip computer and auto lights are controlled by the same button on the end of the column stalk. Does this stalk have two sets of contacts, one for the computer and one for the lights? The lights have always worked (even if the little bugger sometimes turns them off when I'm not looking, but then she is a Citroen) but no amount of column pushing nor pushing of the button on the display unit will persuade it to function.

So, am I looking at a fault in the stalk or is it summit to do with the mobile data network I drive these days that will need computer programming?

On my C5 the button on the left stalk controls (ish) the lights, while the button on the right stalk deals with the trip computer. When you want to scroll through the options you tap the button, but when you want to clear the stored data you hold it down until it clears (a few seconds).

Same here, think thou hold the left button in while turning on the ignition and a display pops up to confirm lights on auto or not. Never switched auto off.

Hello friends!

Just thinking, does anyone know where I can get a handbook for operating my Daddy?

I despair at his lack of technical expertise sometimes. Oh, he can wield spanners with the best of them but computers baffle him.....

Ay up!

It is the button on the stalk that's on the blink. A Spring project?

And as for buying a manual for me, you can forget it Otterchops. Your pocket money is stopped till 2390 to pay for that head gasket!
