C5 Pads

Anyone tried "other than Citroen" types.....my lights are flicking On/Off now so I looked today and yep, they need doing within the next week or so.
(Not using it much as the roads are crappy so been using the Kia....forgot what fun that little thing is )

Was wondering if C5x7 drivers had tried others besides the Citroen Dealers £90 set.....

Have never tried aftermarket in anything other then the Activa V6.

I bought Pagid ones as they were £48 and Citroen ones were £90 something. The fade on them was horrendous. Robert at BL reckoned they were dangerous when he drove it. I swapped them out for genuine ones and the difference was unbelievable!

Annoyingly I found the genuine ones on a shelf in the workshop and I'd forgotten I had them when I bought the Pagid ones.

After market seems a little short of options for sure...and I have never liked Pagid after a set I put on the old Mk1 which were horrid with weight in the car. As such I am a little distrustful, I did however come across Green Stuff ones and that go me wondering....

I find no matter what I use, the rust kills my brakes first. Low miles in winter and low speed

Mintex is my brand of choice. I've been using them for years now, very little knowledge of other brands. I tried pagid on red when I was broke, I agree they are dangerous.

I would agree that Mintex have always made good brake pads and shoes (Ferodo also).

Having had a number of bad experiences with aftermarket or supposedly "OE pads" I only use genuine pads as alternative ones rarely work as well due to the pad material being inferior/smooth so unable to grab the disc and extended braking distances.

Even if I had to pay £90 for them I reckon it's a bargain compared with what could happen with inferior ones trying to save a few quid, anyway look on Ebay and you'll find these genuine ones for just £54 delivered from LCS South who deliver within a couple of days, used them a number of times, always an excellent service supplying genuine parts.

The brakes on my 2009 1.6Hdi X7 Tourer are supplied to Citroen by ATE, and I would think that ATE also supply the pads with them as a unit.

Following this logic I have been using ATE pads and have had no issues, even going down all the Alpine passes around my way. I got my last set from oscaro.fr at a cost of 40 Euros a set (list is supposedly 122 Euros), which works out at under £30.

Only possible downside is that they do seem to create quite a bit of brake dust, even though the wear rate seems fine. (The last set I fitted are about half-worn after 40,000 km or so.)

Be careful using EBC Greenstuff pads on heavy cars, the compound is very soft and doesn't stand up to hard use on a heavy car. I had a set of front pads delaminate from the backing plate on my Saab 9-5. Redstuff pads were fine but took a bit of warming up before they would do anything.

Good to know on the ATE ones, and I had not considered Greens being very soft. Always concerned on pads as there are so many fakes about.

I use Mintex Pads and disks on the Activa and they stop me well from speed...I have managed to get a set of OE (Pug) ones arranged via a good member of the forum for Mintex money so am happy with that. The rear pads are about 60%+ and were changed at the same time on the pre purchase service.

......New front disks next time as I have a little lip forming, I use disks with the weights I carry so I may go full Mintex next time on a "special buy"
And now to save up for a pair of tyres before the weather turns to bad and see if I can fix the little leak from the valve stem

Always bought mine from GSF. Used on previous C5, Xantia and Saabs. Never had problems and a lot cheaper than main dealer prices.
