Shocks bought from ECP with both Sachs and KYB tags

Post by Oliver53 »

Bought a pair of Sachs shocks off Eurocarparts for my 2CV. They look fine except for a plastic tag with KYB in the corner! Searched online and couldn't find a clue how Sachs is linked to KYB...I'm worried if these are fake parts...Does anyone have an idea?

Where are they made? Last KYB I bought came from their factory in France.

They are supposed to be Sachs.

According to he label they are made in Japan:

Methinks it is to expensive to make Sachs in Japan. I may be wrong. Where would you go to set a factory up in another country?
Are Sachs not part of Arvin Meritor? Can't remember. See it on box now...........ZF group. Parts are a minefield With players changing hands constantly.

Google says Sachs is owned by ZF which has facilities in Japan. So it is possible they make that strange shock there. But it is VERY weird to have a KYB tag.

Probably contracted to KYB to make for Sachs/ZF. I bought a Febi tensioner a few weeks ago and it was a Dayco item.

Yeah that probably explains. I've sent an inquiry to Sachs with the pictures. Hope they'll reply me...

I received the feedback from Sachs customer service today. The answer was "please can you go back to where you purchased them from, as if they are Sachs they should not have a KYB stamp or sticker on them". My understanding is that these are FAKE parts as per their comments, so I am requesting Eurocarparts for a full refund including shipping fees.

Interesting.
To add to this, I bought a Lemforder part for C5 control arm last week. It is the bush with a big ally section on it.
Lemforder box with made in China on it. Funnily enough, this has ZF components, marked on a label on box. Do ZF own them too?

There's a huge problem with counterfeit parts from China, even bearings and gears for Passenger aircraft have found their way into the system and drugs into the NHS.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

You are probably right. But there is no single clue that this particular case is linked to any Chinese product.

Wasn't Citronut always questioning Eurocarparts parts ? ...I think saying "always questioning" is putting it mildly though

aye - last time I saw Malcom (may he rest in peace) , he told me how his local ECP branch had been taken to court by trading standards for selling fake parts

Interesting that you got such clear and prompt feedback from Sachs.

Let us know how you get on with the return attempts.
