C5 Mk 1 Estate luggage area lights

Post by hirsty »

My lights have stopped working :( . I have looked to see what activates these but can't find anything. Can anyone shed any light :) on where to find the button/sensor. Both stopped at the same time so pretty sure it's not the bulbs.
Thanks

This may not be of any help, but on the Xantia they used a small tilt switch mounted on the tailgate. When the boot was opened a small ball bearing would then roll up to 2 contacts, switching on the luggage lights.

Edit; There is a plunger switch, but I am not sure where it mounts. This is what it looks like;

That plunger switch is just for the opening tailgate glass, the switch that activates the lights is an integral part of the latch mechanism. If you open the tailgate with the engine running do you get the warning message on the display to say its open ? If so then the switch & the wiring back to the BSI is ok. Dont rule out bulbs just because they are both not working.

I have checked opening the tailgate with the engine running and get no warning message. I assume I should remove the metal protector strip and look under there. What am I likely to find?.
