C5 small issues

Post by Mdon »

Hi all,

Following on from my last thread, I've now bought a 2007 (57) C5 estate 2.0 HDi exclusive. Ive since found some small issues that I'm hoping you can help with, I bought it from Peterborough, and I'm up in the lakes so I can't take it back etc, plus I expected some slight issues, the car drives superbly and is really comfy, as I remember my old 52 plate.

The issues are as follows:

The screen wash too low warning comes up whenever I wash the windscreen even thought the bottle is full. My mate works on a site where they run citroens c5 and Peugeots 207 as site cars so have the 'snap' and 'texa' systems. Will either of these (or anything else) be able to turn this sensor off?

Also the drivers headlamp washer extends but doesn't spray any fluid, I assume this will just be a popped pipe

The 'tyre pressures not monitored' warning comes up each time I start the car. I've noticed two of the tyres have got standard valves and the other two have the sensor valves, will either of the above systems turn this system off too?

And lastly (I think) when I lock the car, the 3rd (high level) break light stays illuminated very dull-ly for approximately a minute or so before going out, is this normal? I've tried reading the owners book but couldn't see any mention of it.

Cheers

Mike.

1) Could be popped pipe, knackered sensor on wash bottle.
2) The fact that you've said 2 tyre valves have been replaced with standard ones suggests that whoever changed these didn't get the system BSI / ECU updated to deactivate them, hence the warning as it can't communicate with the sensors as they're missing. A lexia will be able to deactivate these if you are not planning on replacing these (they are anything up to £50 quid each). If you are replacing them, you will also need somebody with a tyre pressure sensor exciter tool to initialise the sensor before it can be picked up.
3) The third level brake light is listed as a complete replacement module if memory serves. It may be that somebody has attempted to take it apart (there are videos I've seen of someone doing this) and replace it with another board with brighter LEDs and this could be causing the residual lighting for a while after you switch off the ignition if it doesn't have load resistors built in.

Here is a link to 'nevcco's (courtesy of the C5 Owner Forum of the Citroen Owner Club) photographic log for the replacement of the unit (not as straightforward as you might think)! :

Can't advise you about the tools your mates have. The Lexia / Diagbox kit is specifically designed to activate / deactivate functions and programme the various options on Citroen / Peugeot, as well as diagnose and clear faults. There is a list of members with kits that may be near you - check on the main page.

Thanks for the reply, I'm on my phone at the minute so find it hard to navigate around, don't suppose you can post a link or point me in the right direction of the lexia owners please, I can't seem to find it on here.

Thanks.

The headlamp washer is extended by the water pressure, so it must be blocked rather than leaking.
The TPM system can indeed be disabled via Lexia / Diagbox.
There's not much to the washer level sensor (IIRC, it's a float switch), so you could bypass it, but you might as well replace it.

Cheers for that. I've had a look at the washer bottle but can't find a easy way in from the top, what's the easiest way to get to it?

I had that on my old Mk1face, I 3/4 emptied the bottle (guessed it) and put a thin tube down and connected that to low pressure air from my tire line, they can "stick" on the float shaft. The air bubbles dislodged it/whatever it was.
