Is the HP20 a better gearbox than the AL4 ? Does it suffer from rough gear changes as the AL4

Re: Gearboxx: AL4 VS HP20
I have no experience of the AL4 but I do have vast experience of the HP20....
The HP20 generally is a very smooth 'box but does occasionally make a rough one from second down to first occasionally if the logic of the ECU thinks you're going to stop but instead you decide to accelerate instead...
The biggest problem with the HP20 is their life. If over 150,000 miles in a petrol then they're on borrowed time. In diesels they seem to live longer...
I leave to others to tell of experiences with the AL4...

Re: Gearboxx: AL4 VS HP20
AL4 INCREADABLY smooth coupled to a hdi 2.0 ..
Easier to replace the lockup clutch electro valve to when it starts playing up. Can be done with the box in situ.. which I beleve the hp20 needs a full strip down to get at it.
the two boxs have same characters.. no loss of engine power to the wheels. Both auto adaptive. And controlled by an ecu and both use a special fluid and not any dex fluid what so ever.
the al4 was also used in end of line xantia 1.9td models and its also used by renault in their equvilent models..
