C5 2.0 hdi - where should this electical plug be attached?

Unread post by wurlycorner »

Any time I rummage around the engine bay on my c5, I find yet another thing that lazy mechanics have taken off and not bothered to refit in the past.
Most of the time it's obvious where they should go, but this one has got me a bit stumped.
Image
It's the white connector unfortunately just obscured by the hose in front of the oil filter, on the cable you can see running from just under the alternator, hanging at the bottom of the engine bay loosely flapping around rubbing on the air con pipes.
The connector should clearly be clipped onto something, but can't see where that is. Can someone with a similar engine please take a pic for me?
Thanks

I don't seem to have anything like that on mine, all my wiring is in trunking. I suspect its a spare connector for something you don't have.

Mine has the same arrangement, but the connector isn't secured to anything.

Bob didn't go to Scotland (he is on his way now) so I had my car today and managed to get a few photo's of the engine bay.
I have emailed the photo's to you but unfortunately, as far as I can see they don't identify a socket for it to plug in to.

I'm a bit unsure what the question is now!
Mine has a black connector on the cable (actually flexible conduit) coming from under the alternator, which is plugged into the white connector on a cable from the main trunking.
As far as I can tell, that's what Iain has, but is asking if the connector should be secured to something to prevent it flopping around.

Exactly that dnsey. It's not a spare connector, it's plugged into something, but I just can't imagine it's right having that length of cable and connector flapping around and chaffing on the pipes.

Thanks very much for the pics myglaren.
Yours has some extra gubbins on the front of the engine that mine doesn't have - I'm assuming you might have the 2.0 hpi? (i.e with particulate filter)??? So it looks like you have different wiring and plugs in that area.

No, bog standard 2.0 HDi. No DPF.

Can you see where the wire originates?

I had a look on mine, and that plug may be connected to the A/C compressor (it seems to be on mine). I will go and have another look though.

OK, on mine that cable comes down from above, passes through a small cable guide on the alternator, and then, alongside the A/C compressor, plugs onto a lead then then heads off back towards the engine. I cannot see where that one goes, as visibility is very limited.

It seems to join the main loom in the plastic guide thing.
