C5 2LT HDI 2001 - STOP LIGHT
Hi All,
I went over a speed hump at a moderate speed the car could handle and as the rear sat back down the Stop Warning Light and audible warning came on. I checked oil, suspension fluid levels. All ok. My pads front and back are okay but the brake fluid reservoir is getting near the lower level but still okay.
Same day I parked up on a kerb outside a business so car higher on near side and as the car came back level onto the road the Stop Light and audible warning went out. Next day it was back and has stayed on past two days.
Not sure if related, for some time I have noticed the car rides normally but the green light for the suspension ride height is not showing, then if I flick the height up and down it lights up. So intermittently loses the green light.
Just wondering if anyone has had this happen? Is it the ride height mechanism / sensor, or something else??
Many thanks for replies / suggestions...

Should be some other warning light on as well to tell you what it is upset about....

Your right Richard, the same light as for the hand brake is on.

Find out where the brake fluid has gone, it rarely needs topping up if there isn't a leak somewhere.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.
Re: C5 2LT HDI 2001 - STOP LIGHT
Thanks Gibbo. i will need to check it now and again. Llike you say it could be a leak but the car has just been through an mot and I think its just the wearing down of the front and rear pads. The pads are all okay / safe thickness but the reservoir has been getting low for a long time....I possibly wont have the car for too much longer (clutch) so not spending any money it. Hope this makes sense.

The clutch and brakes share that reservoir. Low level may be linked to the clutch hydraulics.
Re: C5 2LT HDI 2001 - STOP LIGHT
Thanks myglaren, I will keep an eye on it...where would you expect the oil to run, one of the front foot wells?

I would be looking at the clutch slave cylinder, on top of the gearbox.

Re: C5 2LT HDI 2001 - STOP LIGHT
Hi again,
I checked clutch cylinder above gear box and all dry. I also looked at brake fluid reservoir and master cylinder/servo, all looked dry. I also checked brake calipers and no fluid visible. I am still (slowly) losing brake fluid and there is no pedal travel. Any more idea's please?
Many Thanks
Jeff

Check all brake lines around the car. If no visible leaks, then the master cylinder is probably slowly leaking into the servo, either not.enough to found its way out yet, or perhaps being ingested by the engine, via the vacuum line. (he says having never looked at a c5 brake system, but assuming it's a bog standard car brake system, as opposed to an actual Citroen brake system)

Re: C5 2LT HDI 2001 - STOP LIGHT
Front nearside caliper was leaking after all,
Found it by parking in multi storey with a nice clean concrete floor which showed up leak after pressing pedal couple of times hard.
Many thanks everyone for advice, awaiting caliper delivery in next few days...
