Air Con

Post by davey »

Air con no longer works on berlingo .... the problems never cease on the thing! It was recharged late last year and worked fine. The aircon switch lights up when turned on but the rad fans dont come on any more and make the usual racket. Has anyone got any ideas on this?
thanks in advance.

you could have a burnt out compresser.
when you switch it on can you here the compresser trying to run, if no sound it could well be that.
or if something simple it could be the switch itself.

Sounds like your out of gas! Does the compressor click in when you press the air con button? If you take it back to where you had it charged up, it takes a small amount of time for the air con specialist, just to put there pipes on, to check there is gas in it and the pressure's are ok, when the engine is running. However the only way to know the correct amount of refridgerent is in the system is to recover it, weight it and put it back in.

monkeyman, if the system is anything like honda the compresser will still click even if it is out of gas until it burns out.

it will have a pressure sensor that cuts out the compressor if the pressure gets to low or high.
what year is the berlingo ? is it multiplexed ? are you getting a feed & earth at the compressor plug when you switch it on ?

Before you go contemplating expensive options follow the simple ones first.
No gas; no start.
No power; No start. Check fuses first, then relays.
Temp control faulty; no start.
If all those check out OK, then look at the other options.
These days, car air/con is ultra reliable except for gas leaks that they just can't get on top of due to the constant vibration of operating in a motor car; that is the most likely cause. Being French, the electrics are always sus.[:D]

I suspect its outta gas as alans and monkeyman suggest but the weather is so crap here on isle of skye i've got to pick my moment to look at the thing without getting drenched. It was refilled at a citroen dealership only 5 months ago, would it really leak away that fast? is there anyway of telling its got no gas as there is no sight window on the dryer like on the xantias? nothing has been disturbed in engine bay to cause a problem on the system. will check elecs at weekend. cheers for help.
