LPG! Problem

Post by monkeyman »

[:)] Hi all! Got a berlingo running poor on Gas, it runs good on petrol. Can't get any fault codes as of yet, i have been told it could be a gas pressure problem . Anyone had similar fault and maybe point me in another direction?!! Cheers.

dont know about poor performance but about the fault codes,
when the gas system was fitted did they go into the ecu and if so what have they done.
i say this because i came across a car at work which had this fitted and they went into the ecu and no fault codes would come up.

If the car runs fine on petrol - then obviously you have a problem in the LPG evapourator (regulator).
Modern mobile LPG equipment is a lot more refined/complicated than the simple engine intake vacuum regulated LPG evapourators used back in late '70-es & early '80-es.
It's booking time for your LPG specialist garage [:)]
I would'nt dare touch it [:I]
- sure you aint simply out of gas ?
- used any gas station - not tried before - lately ?
Back in ancient time I drove an LPG car - and it happened that the filler valve was wet - then freezed up and leaked - even though it's supposed to be a safety double valve.

You are getting your LPG from a reliable distributor aren't you? Its just that depending on the ratio of propane to butane, it can be very sensitive to cold temperatures (which i think we are having quite a lot of).

And exactly THAT was the most annoying I remember from driving that LPG car. It simply would'nt drive properly in cold weather [;)]

[:)] Got the fault codes read today.....real easy too! Earth out a bit of wire and count the flashes. It came up with engine speed sensor. A bit strange as it runs ok on petrol.[:)]

Sorry not related to your query... but how did you read the ecu fault codes on the berlingo monkeyman? it sounds too good too be true! I presume you must be grounding a wire on the diag port forcing the ecu into some diagnostic mode which flashes the ecu light ??
Any info most appreciated as i'm getting closer to torching the damn thing!
Cheers

[:)] Hi davey. The diagnostic socket for the LPG is under the bonnet on the nearside. Its a 2 way black connector and u earth out the wire on pin2 with the ignition on. It then flashes a number of times and you read the code from that and match it to a fault code legend. The diag socket for the LPG is different from the 16 way diag socket which is in the car. You need a proper diagnostic tool to read codes from that socket.
Hope that helps..............my LPG still runs rough!![:)]
