boost gauge in dash cluster possible?

Unread post by chinkostu »

Thinking of fitting a boost gauge into the space in the dash for the oil temp (mine being an SX just has an empty space).

However its not easy measuring the gap with the cluster in place! Does anyone have an idea of what size the hole is and wether its possible to retrofit a gauge into the gap?

behind the blank circle is nothing, but a space for a Oil Temp Guage to fit in there. Thats as much though as I can tell you. The XM Mk.1s have a turbo boost guage but sadly its part of the rev counter in that the scale for the boost is on the revcounter face. No doubt the sensor reciver is a seperate dial behind the rev counter. The XM one works by having a Pressure Sensor in the engine bay, so there is no need for a physical pipe into the car. Possibly the best way to go.

I think it's achievable but I doubt it would be much use. A boost gauge that small would be a strain to see considering the speed it moves at unless you were thinking digital.
I like the idea of an electronic sensor, should be a neater install.

All fair points! I was aiming for an OEM style install but you make a good point about it being too small to be useful.

And you have used an XM S1 TD with a boost guage in it have you??????

Gives a perfectly indicatable idea of what boost your getting unless you are preciese figure demanding in which case..... get a petrol

I'm thinking more about using a 1"ish gauge where my Xantias oil temp Gauge is. It just wouldn't help as far as I can see and I'm all for having a boost gauge.

Wouldn't a light bulb serve just as well? Off for none, on for lots!

I know when it comes on boost after the decades of lag :rofl2: just nice to know where it's at.

Surely that gaps bigger than an inch? Or my eyeball measurements are waaaaaay off!

If finding one that looks and fits right isn't possible i'll just have to temp fit one as and when i'm tinkering

There is no gap between the black plastic and dash itself. And as someone mentioned there is the oil gauge but only without needle. So you need to cut that also. Otherwise size and place is ok and you can search from diesel car that black one that you do not have to cut anything. (if you speak for Mk2..)

Ive possibly got a VSX type front part that would give you the opening for an in dash mounted guage..
