citroen c5 suspension problem.

Post by papix77x »

Hi folks,
been reading on these posts for the last few days, due to my suspension problem on my car.
I have a c5 04 plate 2.0hdi. The suspension pump had gone to mine ( no sound from pump)
so p i picked up a second hand one from a local scrap yard, which looked tatty but clean on the inside.. so went aheahd and fitted it.
The pump seem to work, i can hear it going... the light selectors in the vehicle allow me to change position... but the car is totally stuck on low... so low literally 3 fingers from the floor.
I tried applying pressure with a modified valve cap and a small bike pump, for literally hours, with engine off and on... no joy...
I think the problem is to do with pressure, given me taking pipes out for the replacement of the pump.. now its totally empty the lines.
Tried bleeding at least the front bleeding suspension screw.. nothing comes out. and the car of course not moving.
Now i do not have a lexia... and i ma trying to find a solution so that at least i can get the car high enough to drive to a mechanic...
Any help in how to bleed properly this or if in your opinion something else needs to look at.
The rear bleeding screw i have not touched yet... due to the car been totally flat especially at the back!
please advice any ideas or comments.
Cheers

I would jack it up and secure on stands. Then bleed front and back, making sure you are getting fluid through and that your levels in tank are sound.
Do that and see where you are. The best way to get the correct pump from another model is to get the VIN and match to your own for proper part no.
Otherwise there may be a difference on the ECU that comes with the pump. You need it up to bleed it anyways, so do that first.
Edit; Until someone comes along to clarify, it may be that you need Lexia to purge the valves, now that air has been let in. Many modern ECU/ ABS brake systems are like that now.

Hi there,
thanks for the advice,
today i got 1 of those brake bleeding hand vacum pump ... i started the bleeding process on the front of the car due to the bleeding valve sit in the engine area, and literally after hours of keep pumping still tons of hair come out, i then tried applying pressure on the tank with a low powered pump and the car seemed to have made some slight movement. It's now late in the morning i will some how lift the car up at the back and have a proper go at bleeding the back and front.
Is it normal that after pumping for nearly 2 hours the front bleeding screw still tons of bubbles of air? please advice if you know.
Cheers

It has to be sucking in air.....have you fitted new seals ?

I would think two hours of running will not be good for a 2nd hand pump either.....

Try moving the steering as well as opening rear bleed nipple.

Hi all,

just to share my success in getting the car suspensions working!
Many thanks Lexi for your practical and sound advice, i have bleed the rear nipple and front, started the car and gradually giving warning but it started to raise, front first... then the back come to life... so turned off with the intention of bleeding further, but lots of pressure when i undone the rear bleed nipple as well as the front.
The car seem to bleep like the 4 suspension lights come on at once... but then it settles and re operates normally. I could be low on oil.. so i just picked up a 1 lt of lds... and going to top it up.... i am assuming there is still a bit of air trapped and low on oil... hopefully by topping up and letting it ride... it should bleed itself out!

god when it raised.,. i felt like god :-)
