Front suspension pipe questions

Post by c.morewood »

A few suspension pipe questions please.
How does the front suspension rubber return pipe fit into the suspension unit.. mine are deteriorating. Any pictures?

On the front supply side

Does anyone know what the lengths of 7 and 8 are? and are the lengths important to the suspension? Are the bends beside the spheres important?

Thanks,
Chris

Chris, The return rubbers clip to the suspension strut with a clip similar to an OEM hose clip.. With the pukka Laser tool (or an old fashioned pair of carpenter's pincers) and care the clips are reusable although they ae cheap enough to get spares.

Note that the pipe assemblies them selves don't come with clips as standard.

Good idea to replace them if they look perished as they can loose a significant amount of LHM when the let go..

Pass on the pipe lengths sadly..

Jim, it was what was at the end of the pipe underneath the clip that was bothering me.. I don't want to break it taking it off and discover that I don't have that piece to replace...But I found the picture on citroen service after ages of hunting under "spheres"?? part no. 95050399. Once I had that I found a replacement on mister auto £5.65 each.
Are the pipe bends significant beside the spheres?
I was looking at my strut tops as well today.. just starting to go rusty.. yes on a Mk2...so they'll need changing as well so I'll leave the front supply pipes till I see what size the union is with the replacement strut top.
Well at least shes back on the road after the clutch replacement, (still a judder on takeup but hopefully that'll dissapear,) PAS pipe replacement and anti sink pipe replacement. You may have guessed I'm holidaying at home!

Sorry Chris... There's nothing under the 'foot' of the pipe, just a plain hole in the strut body... The 'foot' (which is integral with the rubber pipe) just covers the hole. The only thing you have to be careful of is that the foot is placed centrally over the hole as there is nothing to help alignment..

If the strut tops are only just beginning to go rusty then have them off, strip away the rust and the rubber coatings and rustproof them quick and they can be saved...

Good to hear all back on the road now :D Did the car cause the holiday cancellation of was the 'staycation' a choice?

The car, the mother in law and swmbo. A combination of the three. But I'm glad if the time to spend on the car..and the chance to run in the clutch. I've got to learn the bite point again and try to get rid of this judder. I'll have a look at the strut tops again tomorrow and thanks for the description if the pipe end.
