Replacing engine

Post by stevec5 »

When replacing an engine with a complete used engine is there anything to do with the ECU? Does it need to be mapped to the injectors and if so is this the only mapping required. (C5 163 bhp 2.0 hdi)

No.. I dont think so. I know The 8v 2.0 hdi engines dont need injectors matching.. Not sure of the 16v engines though.
Can you not recover and swap injectors from the old engine?

Yes i could swap them - do you know whether the ECU needs telling any other sensors have been changed.

IIRC one of the ECU's, maybe BSI or Injection, has the engine serial code on it, I've seen it somewhere but can't recall which one.
Also if your using a brand new exchange unit or bottom end, if the engine code is one of the newer ones that may need changing as well.

Is it used or new?

Dare i ask how much?

I'm looking at a used engine complete with all its attachments. Both engine types are the same - rhh. Same year as well. If I was to nothing to the ECU what would be the effect.

Nothing.. stick it all in. The key and bsi unlocks the ecu and the ecu controls the engine. It will be fine. The worse case it will need just the four injectors swapping over!

Thanks for the useful advice - can the injector mapping be accessed with lexia leads/software, I was looking at buying diagnostic software. Does anybody know whether the leads on eBay from China are kosher.

The China systems are hit n miss... some leads are good, some are crap!!

I dont think lexia can access Mapping, I caertainly havent. They can see injector programming though. Its more diagnostic repair rather then tuning up etc..

Do you know of any good sources for the lexia system. If the injectors aren't mapped does it make any noticeable difference to running or is it just an economy tweek.
