2nd xantia Hydraulic pump

Post by mipster »

I've bought the L reg TD xantia VSX as seen on the for sale board.
I'm trying to decide whether to break or repair it.
The hydraulic pump makes a loud clattering (alnmost grinding noise) when pressure is called for. There's a good chance of air in the system since citroebics is still returing bubbles to the LHM reservoir. There's only 1 wheel on the ground so citroebics isn't the work out it normally is and It got dark after an hour of intermittant up-down-up....
Is such a loud clatter caused by air or is this a sign of the pump being on it's way out?
Stuart (the seller) said that it's a second hand replacement pump fitted last year.
cheers,
mipzter

They clatter a lot if they've got air in them, and the bubbles returning to the tank are a good sign that it is sucking air in. I wouldn't run it too long as the cavitation that's causing the clattering could destroy the insides of the pump.....
