Hi Folks, noticed yesterday that my +ve battery clamp has split. Its looking a bit done anyway and in light of the publicity on here want to change it.
It looks like the last inch of the lead is encased in "lead/solder" sleeving running into the clamp and that the replacement clamps down at my factors are all cable clamp types.
Do I have to cut the cable at the start of the "lead/solder" bit and then attach the new clamp to that or is there a way to remove the "lead/solder" bit? Worried I might end up with a lead that is too short.
Many thanks
Alan

Re: Changing Xantia +ve Battery Lead
You may be able to buy a lead complete with connector, if not you can get a screw on connector. Have a look on ebay.

Re: Changing Xantia +ve Battery Lead
I had the same issue exactly on my Xantia. I didn't need to replace the cable, but when the old terminal was removed the cable within was blackened. I just bought a slightly longer terminal, snipped an inch off of the cable and it fitted back together well.
In hindsight I'd just make up another soldered one though, the screw up connectors strain the wires. The solder connectors do still exist, just a bit harder to find. Example here Buying a pre made one may be preferable, I think the reason I didn't was the longest one in Halfords didn't reach.

Re: Changing Xantia +ve Battery Lead
Thanks - I will look at the complete lead option I think. This is to on a 1.9TD 1999 with the XUD. Anyone know the length to go for? I take it that it bolts to back of the starter at the other end. I notice that a couple of other cables join into it. Do I just connect them via a ring terminal on the clamp bolt?
Cheers

Re: Changing Xantia +ve Battery Lead
It will have 3 ends, one on the battery, one to starter and last to fusebox. I'll see if servicebox shows a length

Re: Changing Xantia +ve Battery Lead
I am confused , how would I contact the lead to the starter and fusebox if the replacement lead just has a connector to the battery post at the top and ring connector to the starter? Would I Have to get a specific lead from Citroen UK?
