2008 Citroen C5 "Gearbox faulty"

Post by mf.lorant »

Dear All,

2008 Citroen C5 2.0 Hdi aut.
A few days ago when I drove out from the underground car park (quite a steep ramp) the car stopped with "faulty Gear or Gearbox faulty" and suddenly flashed a Sport mode and the winter light and I could just go in D3. Plus even associate all this with a rough grabbing when I tried to remove the gearbox for some other gear. I just finally drove out to the street and stopped the car. I restarted and everything worked normally. I went with it for a while in the city and from one moment to the next is the same as when I drove out of the garage. Until I drove home it did the same, flashing lights and D3. What could be wrong?
I look forward to your ideas!
Thanks in advance!

I went to a dealer, they checked the fualt codes, they did a few rides, but the car went normally with no faults. They cleared the codes and tomorrow they give a few more checks and then we'll see.
For the moment that's all, but I'll tell them to change the gearbox oil, just to be on the safe side.

Advice here will tell you:

it is VERY IMPORTANT that they use the 100% correct oil, even dealers are known to get this wrong....it is worth making sure they know this.

To correctly change the oil , you need two changes and on the third a new filter. (it does not drain fully)

?? did they not say what the codes were ?

It can be done in one go with the "hot flush" method, but it will take 10-12 liters of not-exactly-cheap gearbox oil to do it properly

They said that for the first sight it seemed to be something with the crankshaft sensor or something like this.

Next time the codes are read, try to get them written down so that you can share them here. Your dealer may be right with their diagnosis, but a second opinion doesn't hurt.
