Water pump leak? 2.0HDI 90

Post by Oliver53 »

Hi guys,

My 2.0 HDI pic has developed a coolant leak recently and I have to top up every 2 weeks or so. With the undercover removed, after a night I can see fluids (feels like coolant) on the right corner of oil sump and on the floor, see the picture. I reckon this must be water pump failure, or other thoughts?

The water pump was changed together with timing belt and tensioners 2 years ago at 87K, now the car is 104K on the clock. Can that be gone so quickly?

If it is coming from centre spindle bearing, then the pump is kaput. If from perimeter of pump, then the flange gasket is gone ,or it's set screws need tightened
You will need the cambelt covers off to see. The pump could go in that mileage....if it is not a top spec one.

Take the belt covers off to make sure, water has a habit of running around and coming out in the most unlikely places.

Thanks Stewart. I'll have to leave it for now coz my poor pic has failed MOT yesterday with a few brake problems and "exhaust major leak"

Dont leave it leaking for too long. Id also vote water pump. If water continues to get on the cam belt that will end up kaput.. It will be wise to fit a belt and pump when you get to it. The tensioners will be ok..
