C5 door handle replacement

Post by hirsty »

I have acquired a new drivers door handle for the Mk1 C5 I have recently bought (external) and would like some advice on removing the drivers door card. Particularly any hidden screws or pop tabs.
I also tried to get a number plate light from the same scrappy but the donor had been rear ended and they were gone, so I bit the bullet and went to the main stealers. I was gobsmacked to receive the complete light unit for £2.94 inc. Apparently they are NFP and I got lucky. :-D

It's pretty much as you'd expect - screws under the round plug in the interior handle surround, inside the grab handle (the cover unclips), inside the speaker mount, and an easily missed one at the rear edge of the trim.
After that, it's the usual clips round the edge, then lift the trim up and away, taking care with the inner handle linkage.
You can pull out and disconnect the window switch before starting, and don't forget ghe kerb light too if you have one.

Thanks dnsey that's helpful. Because it's the drivers door I have a full set of switches. Does that also lift out and unplug?

Yes, just lever it out gently, and unplug the leads from the back of the switch.

It is worth cleaning the insides of the switch as well....they get mucky in there :)

The covers just clip off.

Certainly is - the windows go haywire eventually and a good clean sets them to rights again.

New clips possibly needed for around the door card always break when take of a door card.

I got loads from ebay..
