citroen synergie 2.0 hdi 2001 sx gearbox

Post by shahidocean »

guys

my gearbox is feeling a bit wobbly occasional problems putting into first gear.
if in the worst case it failed what's the best option to get that fixed cheaply
can see used gearboxes for 100-250 how much would it cost to fit
if i had the transmission overhauled how much would that cost
and can anybody recommend a shop to do it.
I am in ipswich.

Also which other cars gearboxes will fit the synergie
is there a part number that i should look for

best regards

First of all check the gearbox mounting and the gear linkage, its more likely to be something external than the gearbox it's self. Could be that the clutch is not disengaging properly in which case you would also have difficulty getting it into reverse.

What happens when you try to engage first gear? Does the problem occur when the car is stopped or only when moving. Can you always engage first with the engine stopped. There are several possibilities depending on what exactly is happening. Please be as specific as possible.

hi guys i am having someone look at it on saturday morning. so far the problem only occurs very occasionally putting it into 1st gear when i'm driving. also when i go from 3rd to 4th it take about half a second for something to release before I can put it into 4th. It always go into third easily. It feels like something is sticking. hopefully it is something minor to do with the linkages or something sticking that just needs freeing up.
Cheers

Perhaps oil. If filled with oil with a viscosity that is too high it can make it slow and difficult to engage gears. There will be no crunching the gear will just not engage. This is much worse when things are cold and all may be perfect after a long run. The cure is to drain the oil and refill with 75w80 gl5 gear oil. Doesn't cost much to try it.

update: Guys I had my engine oil changed and I had the gearbox oil changed with the 75w80gl5. Was going to do it myself but when the ramp flew out I realised that would have been the end of me :) so took it to garage. it was 55 for gearbox 60 for the engine and 5 for lubing and check the transmission linkage inc vat . They told me the gearbox oil was really dirty. The gear box felt a lot smoother but still was sticking going to first and reverse was sticky. After about a week of hard driving 60 miles per day half motorway doing 3000 revs in every gear hard its loosened up nicely. First is getting nearly perfect and reverse every time now. And its loosening up nicely. So gearbox oil was the problem. The told me they couldn't do much to the linkage because it was all cables. Car is running like a rocket now :) Very happy with it . Btw they said if the gb went they would get a recon unit and fit change the clutch for about 850 ... so not impossible and would be worth it on this car. thanks for all your help and advice.

Gear change cables on the C5, so assume the same for the Synergie, sometimes have problems caused by the outer cable coming loose in the crimped ends causing the outer cable to move in and out of the crimping instead of shifting the gear.

Might be worth taking a close look at the cables while someone works the lever.
