I have a 98 xantia 2.1 td that has died a death on me.It was driving fine until one morning last week, I went to start and nothing happened. The key light refuses to go out , I've tried both keys, but light on dash refuses to go out (main dealer says they can find no problem ? ).ANY HELP OUT THERE ???
DaveBurns is correct, the immobiliser doesn't seem to recognise either ignition key(also spot on about the main dealers)
Checked for live feeds at the double relay(beside ecu) as wheeler suggested, pin 1&2 are igntion live only, checked all fuses and they seem fine.Is there anywhere i can get a wiring diagram for the system??

I think what Irishandy means Anders is that the imobiliser reciever wont recognise the transponder in the keys and so the light on the dash stays lit, signaling a fault.
No keypads on MK2 models just transponders embedded in the keys.
So the engine can't be started and according to the main dealer there isn't a problem, or should that read, our machine doesn't tell us there is a fault when we plug it in so we're totaly bolloxed with it mate, what a poor state of affairs when the main dealers can't repair the cars they sell.
No idea what this system consists of or how it interrogates the key but that would be a place to start looking.
Phone round a few diesel injection specialist and seek their advice as it could easily be the electronics on the pump at fault.
Post on the bba-reman forum, you might get lucky there.

Strip the trim from round the ignition cowling and check the receiver for the immobiliser - looks like a coil of wire around the ignition barrel. Try holding your second key right next to it whilst turning the ignition on with the other and see if that helps. I've seen this problem on a petrol Saxo, a new transponder receiver fixed it (after much messing and cost)
