C5 Tourer Particulate fluid level warning.

Post by jpn369 »

At the last service I asked for this to be checked and they said it was half full.
One month later and I have a warning light!
Can this do any damage before it is topped up?

a X7 car ? What age ?

A: Maybe it has been refilled but not reset ? B: Are you sure the dealer was correct ?

I think it is unknown (other than the repeated warnings) if any damage can be done. I cannot think why there would be....see B: above

I cannot remember seeing anyone confirm that the injector system stops working at a low warning.
The system does not have a "level" sensor, it just goes on ECU estimates from the number of refills (fuel flap opening) the car has had/vrs miles covered.

Is it still under a Citroen dealer ? Given the info they gave and the warning so soon after, I would pop in and get them to re-check it for free.
It can be done by refilled at any garage or at home on stands as it comes in an easy fill packaging. A lexia session will reset the levels.

How many miles has the car done? The tank level can be viewed via a window on the side of the tank so it might well be half full but if/when it has been topped up the ECU wasn't reset at the same time than as Sticky says the ECU will assume that the tank is now empty.

Thanks for the help everyone.
Car is X7.
It has done 120,000 miles.
I have now found a split pipe in the vicinity of the reservoir, but I need to investigate further.

Where is the window you mention situated?

I have the under shield partly detached but can't find the window.

Thanks for this Sticky, but I still cannot see a window on the PEF reservoir to check the fluid level.

Am I being blind and stupid?

I don't know where it is on the X7 type, the Mk1 face I have used a diff design...

Like a lot of these thing a large light source on the other side can often show the level with plastic tanks if clear/ yellowish plastic, black ones often have a clear section as part of the molding.

The window is where number 9 on the parts diagram is pointing which is this white plastic plate through which you can view the fluid level.
