so went and Bought A C5 estate

Post by octo0072000 »

so went and bought a 2004 C5 LX2.0 HDI auto estate full history 11 months test belts done, new radiator last year

as usual few things need doing heater resister for one, aerial missing. rear wash and window us wiper ok
no sign of fluid change on auto box drives ok not sure on the kick down how it works at 70 should you be able to get it to kick down at 65/70 or not
front struts advisory for last few years in mot history just slightly wet
rear brake pipes slightly corroded, couple of tyres worn on edges back wheels no leaning in
tracking seems out pulls to slightly to the left steering wheel is off center so im fighting against the power steering
front pads low on test
main problem R/N/S strut boot leaking (boots ordered etc) never changed one before found a video shows filling up the strut boot with fluid so 17 minutes in shows this anyone is this correct not in English sub titles will give you a laugh

all the reading ive done says strut leaking needs replacing but suspension all works ok even boot switch car floats along well
i would have bought Howies but need a auto
Me had a D super 5 and a BX years ago so all input welcome will i come to regret it or not is the question 8-[

Yes ,one thing at a time......then more
Factor in a few oil changes on gearbox with correct oil.........maybe sooner, rather than later if it is a keeper.

Bit of an update on the C5 niggles
aerial fitted radio now works great
sorted the lack of kickdown on auto box throttle cable needed adjusting too much free play
heater resister sorted had to fit a modified one due to plug melting (common) fault
new pads fitted (advisory on last test near metal so well overdue (also 3 different sets of pads fitted to C5 mk1)
S/Hand alternator fitted bad bearing noise so cured now
all filters done oil change etc

left to do

cruise control retro fit
auto box oil change
and rear strut boot to change slight leak but car not dropping overnight so see how we go
roof rails wanted at some point to retro fit
all for now looks like she's a keeper
