Xantia HDi advice

Post by citroenesque »

Hi

I was sent this by a fellow Citroen club member and offered to post here. I have no experience of the HDi but it might resonate with someone here.

"Hello Phil, I don't know if you know I have a Xantia Hdi which has been plagued with the 'Limp home' problem since the day I got it, well after two years and more money than you can point a stick at I have finally discovered why it does it!
I am telling you so that you can spread the word to any poor Hdi owners who are also experiencing the same misery, the fault lies with the E.C.U. it generates a fault which shows on the diagnostic as low turbo boost, I changed the turbo twice! Also MAF sensors, pressure switches, but certainly with my car, there was no actual fault, it was the ECU generating fault codes for faults that didn't exist. It was the fitting of the second turbo that convinced me of this it was possible the first one might have been faulty, but unlikely to be two!

Gosh, now that is very unusual indeed...

I've only known one ECU ever to give a problem and that was on an HP20 Autobox ECU.. My own fault actually, I accidentally blew it up doing something silly

It still worked but stopped talking to the Lexia....

Just to hijack the thread a little.

Jim, could this be why none of my ECU's (except the engine one) talk to the Lexia ?

You checked the obvious sticky and all fuses in fuse box?? Ive also come across lexia chineese leads that DO NOT talk to some ecus in a car. Iirc steve trainman had a lead like this.. His wouldnt talk to an ecu and my lead would..

Yep....tried with Jims Lexia....his "other" box of tricks read the Engine ECU however.

All fuses OK, all switched to new and box/contacts coated in wax/contact preserver just after I got it when I stripped it all out for the swirl pot replacement and the Headlamp feed mod with twin feeds/relays/heavy earths.

No, won't be that Alasdair...

I blew the autobox ECU up by connecting it with bare wires across the top of the engine. The induced ignition voltages when I started the engine was what blew it up...
