Loooking for used 7 or 8 seater

Post by xantiagreen »

Brother is looking for a 7 or 8 seater mpv mainly for school runs and wk end activities (no 4x4's), budget is £2500.
He has been looking at the v70 d5 which is a nice car but a tad expensive as the reliable year starts at 2004 onwards, I have mentioned the C8 Hdi, Peugeot 807 Hdi, Zafira Dti, galaxy tddi and Grandis, but thats just going off web searches.

For 2500 or under whatvehicle/engine/drive train is reliable enough to handle 5 days of town trundling traffic and countless gear changes.
Auto or manual, 2.0 or under, colour no issue interior needs to be tough as the passengers are a rowdy bunch of thugs.. :)

Cheers

Have a look at the Fiat Ulysee with the 2.0JTD engine. It was a joint venture with Citroen but arguable better put together than the C8. Prices are reasonable as well, heres an example.

Cheers SC5 I did look at the Ulysee but not not sure as I've read a few reviews with owners suffering snapped belts at around 80k and injectors that are almost impossible to remove, is there a certain year/model to go for.

So is the engine same as the C8 a Hdi but renamed JTD if not is the JTD reliable and what about the auto box is that fussy. :)

Never studied the JTD unit tbh but they have a great reputation like the HDi unit. Only made from 2002-2005 so later model the best of the bunch. The auto box like most is fine as long as tranny fluid change is done, niggling electrical faults seem to be the issue with most auto box issues (plugs/connections).

Will look into that model, but I think he's narrowed it down to Zafira Dti 2003-2005/Touran 2003-2005 and possibily Galaxy 2001-2005, see what happens..

We have an 11 plate Zafira 1.7CDti as a pool car at work and its a horrible, horrible car. Poxy drive, poor quality interior and just generally nasty, i try to avoid driving it if i can and its a top spec Exclusive model as well. The previous Ford S-Max was far superior in every aspect with double the miles.

Just passing what I found. Yes, wrong end of the country and it's a VaaxAwful I think but....
Automatic, 2.0 Turbo Diesel, 8 seater, only 1118k miles. Electric sliding doors, MOT November, wear on interior, starts and drives lovely. PRICED TO SELL AT £800 no offers unless you are a complete simpleton. The car can be available with 12 MONTHS MOT but the price will be doubled simply because that's what it's worth and not because it needs that much spent on it. I am located near podimore services on the A303 which is easier to find than Facebook on Google and you managed that without a game of text tennis. My phone number is 07936362132 and you can call me anytime up to midnight or you can have any comments, texts or PM's (pointless messages) answered by simply referring to the final photo. Part exchange considered dead or alive including mot failures, However you will need to be a bit old fashioned and speak to me to discuss any potential deal. just in case I haven't made it clear enough about how to discuss this car with me then type COMMON SENSE into Google or just refer to the final photo.
Sure I saw an 04 C8 for less too, but can't find it at the mo'.

Update: Found it (sorry, it's a 2.2)
Citroen c8 hdi 7 seater 54 reg
£500 – Stur newton
Hdi 2.2 Citroen c8 6 speed 115.000 miles. Recently had new cambelt service and injectors £1350 spent as cam belt broke has had new brakes and tyres all receipts tidy for age eml light on since engine done some times goes in limp mode turn key off then back on and it resets £500 no offers. Mot has just run out now

I think S-max is tad more expensive, 2004 exclusive zafira is coming in at £500ish fully comp under my dad with 4 yrs NCB, it asks how long have you been driving this particular vehicle, out of curiosity I put in driving since Sep 2011 and price dropped to £320. WoW what if I have driven a zafira before does that count.... :-D Cheers for the heads up SC5.

Cheers Mike T, I've thrown a radius of 40ish miles from the PR3 area but my brothers looking very local more 15-20 mile radius... If it was for me I'd travel to see it you can't beat a cross country trek especially if it's a citroen :-D

If its big enough I'm sure a 7 seat Peugeot 406 estate would fill the bill. The 2.0. Hdi is very reliable, 50 mpg+ and very nice to drive, you should be able to get a first class one for £1000.

You could spend a lot less on a Synergie (806, Fiat Useless or Lancia ?Dedra?, Evasion in France). Most were 7 seaters, but some, mostly Peugeots, had a 3 seat bench rear so took 8. The earlier 1.9TDs are pretty bomb proof as far as I can tell and servicing is a breeze. I had the cam belt done second time around at 140k miles on mine and it feels like it will last another 70k without too much trouble. Its not the main car any more, but yesterday we loaded my daughters bike down one side of the 'van, my daughter and what seemed like a ton of 'stuff' for university, 450 mile round trip, mostly at 70 -75 mph, no worries.

For £2.5k you could buy three :-)

When the new C8 had been about for a while, I thought about changing but the service manager at a local specialist suggested labour times for big jobs on the C8 are more than the Synergie because of harder access. The early ones with electric doors got a bad press for door gremlins.

I wonder, I think the C Crosser is 7 seat, (aka Mitsubishi Outlander with a 2.2 Citroen diesel engine). They were pretty unpopular so a cheapie might turn up but last time I looked they were £5k plus. Sounds like a grumpier than usual citroen to me, odd name.

Some old Grand Picassos are coming up below £3k but might be liabilites, and what about Berlingos with 'family pack' 7 seats - not many around, wonder about prices.
