Pool of diesel around injectors

Post by Dcourt »

My partner said she saw smoke coming from the engine so I had a look and found pools of diesel around the injectors! The car runs fine! And I have recently had new injectors put in a few months ago! Any one know what this could be?

I am not sure, as I have not experienced this myself (although others have). Somebody who has will pop along with a better explanation then I.

For a start I would suggest you go straight back to the garage that fitted the new injectors,if they have fitted the new injectors correctly there should be no sign of any fuel. Three things on HDi`s that can cause this. These injectors run at extremely high pressure and can often leak fuel at the pipe union. The fuel leak off rail has 4 fittings, one for each injector, they have an "O" ring, the part is pushed into the top of the injector and secured with a "C" clip, these can often leak. Then there is the seal ring at the end of the injector where it sits in the head. Its just a simple copper washer,it must be replaced after removing injectors and where it sits in the head must be spotless clean. Then obviously the clamp holding the injector down must be fully tightened. I`ve known these to work loose?

Sounds like it might be the leak off pipes! Anyone know how much a set of leak off pipes is?
