xud fuel filter housing

Post by ralph »

I feel a bit of a berk having to ask this - but for years I've been putting up with being unable to drain water/fuel from the fuel filter drain plug.
Plug opens, nowt comes out. So I have to unscrew and take the lid off, so air can get in and the fuel comes gushing out.
Am I missing something? (it's the post-1990 filter design that sits above the clutch, on a Xsara).

How about opening the drain screw, then giving the plunger bulb a couple of squeezes> That sends it gushing out![:p]
To be honest the best way of removing water and any debris is indeed to remove the filter lid, drain off and carefully clean inside the housing.

D'oh, so I wasn't doing it wrong. Haynes says nothing about squeezing fuel through the system so I'd assumed I was cocking it up somehow, and making a meal of a five-minute job. Thanks Jon.
