Made me laugh ...

I've an Activa on my drive which has been on SORN for the past two years and, as the insurance was lapsed at the same time, i risk losing my 5yrs no claims unless i re-insure. So ... off i went and quoted a reasonable valuation of the car at £500 only to be told to 'reconsider' as book value was between £45 - £95!!
Sad eh. But made me laugh. At that rate my whole 'fleet' is worthless. Makes me wonder why i keep them.

Update ... SAGA came in at £93 p.a not too bad.

I've had several quotes from Saga and they are always around double the next lower quote.
They ever send the free pen either.

Strange thing insurance .... every policy i have now, thats four cars and home insurance have all been cheapest with Saga. How come the different experiences i wonder?

£143 v6
£125 hyundai 15reg (missus")

Saga had managed to get my parents home insurance up to £900, a bit of computer work soon got it down to £175, they refused to compete!
Car insurance, not Saga, the computer generated values for my 2 Xantia's are about £3500 each!!!!!

So that's £45 if the tank is empty, £95 if the tank is full then!!

I used to joke that I had just doubled the value of my Xantia when I filled it up, perhaps I was right.

That book value has to be wrong - weighed in, a complete Xantia is worth more than that (even at today's low prices)

I don't recall having any problem when I rang up last year to get mine insured and gave a value of £1000 on it.

This is SAGA dont forget. At £93 for the year i'd not be claiming anything off them in any event. Why would i bother, my cars are all 20 years old. Insurance is a necessity in case i damage anyone elses property. Covers me then. Thats how i see it these days. Write one off... hop in another [emoji1]

In the main I don't think they care and what value you put on it is pretty meaningless. Give a low figure and they will use it against you should you make a claim, give a high figure and they will use a figure they want in the event of a claim. Only time it is of importance if you are taking out and agreed value policy and even then the small print is full of caveats.

Absolutely right ^^^^^ with the additional exception that if you put a significantly higher value than book for the car on a standard policy, it can also cause quote engines to either decline, or surcharge.
