Saipa Automotive Iran

Post by soufle »

thinking about the dreaded demise of LHM low pressure return octopus in a Xantia and where to buy a factory replacement, Saipa sprung up as a possibility, I can't help imagining that they might be sitting on shelves in Iran, has anyone looked at this idea to source parts at all? It could be a novel solution perhaps. But some net searching didn't get me far!

Now that's an interesting thought Steven...

Depends if the Iranian ones are a faithful reproduction of the French version or if they have a substantial 'local' content as say, the French and Slough-built Traction Avant had...

How much is the same on a Pekyan and a Hillman Hunter for instance?

I don't think the Iranians ever made the Activa...

phase 2's after 2000 produced according to some light googling. Which means there are parts floating around unless they've been ferreted to the rear if the medina. There's an Itanian guy on Aussiefrogs, I'll suss him out. I could end up with a sedition charge though I guess...

Yup, the Govt. have now given us the all clear to go to Iran - but t'internet might be easier! In the same way as 2CV parts come from S. America, Renault from Romania & Fiat from Poland (mind you, so did my replacement door mirror!).

As for Pekyans, I'd always understood they were CKD Hunters, so would've had little local content AND the few Iranian Dyanes over here are, as far as I know, are maintained with French parts - or pattern replacements of same - which suggests total interchangeability.

On the other hand, the last Hindustan Ambassadors had very little on common with the original Morris Oxford, beyond the body panels, as by then they'd (amazingly) introduced a "Classic" model that reverted to even more closely resembling the original.
