Exhaust Particle Filter

Unread post by UVG »

Hi All
I’m running a 2005 1.6hd1 VTR C5 with the particle filter in the exhaust system
can anyone tell me when it does its regeneration will I know?
does anything come up on the screen on the dash
I have had the car two years and I’m not aware of it ever happening
I’m having trouble intermittently when the car is cold of it coughing and spluttering to a halt.
it feels like there isn’t enough fuel getting through but having changed EGR and MAF and checked other bits and pieces I’m wondering if it’s more a case of exhaust gases not getting out fast enough
but once it’s warm any sludge in the filter softens up and let the "air" flow then stiffens up as it cools
it’s just a thought but it has left me wondering if the car will tell me when it’s regenerating
Cheers for any help UVG

No, DPF system won't notify you when it's working as designed but it will tell you when it isn't!

As such, I'd advise you seek a diagnostic session for your cold start/running issues.

No sludge in a DPF, just soot.

As above, needs a Lexia session to look at the start up problems

I need to invest in a lexia
but I keep reading mixed reports...especially about them and the C5
I'm used to cars you fix with spanners and screwdrivers not computers
guess I need to look deeper into the lexia
thanks for the advice guys

If you do decide to get a Lexia, you could do a lot worse than giving Easy Diagnostics a call. They know what they are doing, they check that your computer is suitable, and their kit does work with the C5, up to (and including) X7 models (I can vouch for this, having used mine on qprdudes' C5). If you also say you are a member of this forum they may knock off the price of P&P.
